ATI TV Wonder 600 USB HDTV Device Announced

AMD today introduced the ATI TV Wonder 600 USB external TV card, featuring high-definition television (HDTV) viewing and digital video recording (DVR) capabilities.

Besides the main USB unit, the ATI TV Wonder 600 USB package includes a credit-card-sized infra-red remote controller, and an A/V input adapter for video capture from a camcorder or VCR.

The item available throughout North America by September 2007, along with ATI TV Wonder 650 Combo PCIe card for desktop computers.

Currently, there is no information on pricing of these products.

Lenovo ThinkPad T61p Mobile Workstation Released

Lenovo has unveiled the new ThinkPad T61p 15.4-inch widescreen mobile workstation laptop, the PC maker’s “highest performing notebook”.

“The ThinkPad T61p raises the bar on performance with Lenovo’s Ultra Connect II wireless design helping improve WWAN and WLAN 802.11n performance, new NVIDIA Quadro FX 57OM graphics certified to the open GL graphics GPU standard, Intel Centrino Pro mobile technology and long battery life with more control via Battery Stretch. Users can even opt for next-generation wireless capabilities with Ultra-Wideband. With Lenovo’s new cooling system, the notebook runs three decibels quieter over previous models and up to 10 percent cooler even under the most intensive tasks. Tops for security, the notebook offers optional port disablement, 32-byte password protection, an integrated fingerprint reader and full disk encryption,” Lenovo’s press release says.

The other features of the T61p should be similar to those in select 15.4-inch T61 models with Mobile Intel PM965 Express Chipset and dedicated graphics. These Intel “Santa Rosa” platform-based Lenovo ThinkPad notebooks have, the latest Core 2 Duo processor, up to 4GB of system memory, up to 100GB hard drive, and a DVD burner, as well as a Gigabit Ethernet, a modem, a Bluetooth, a PC Card slot, an ExpressCard/54, and three USB ports. Lenovo ThinkPad T61p also has magnesium composite cover and a Top Cover Roll Cage for “extreme durability”.

The ThinkPad T61p mobile workstation starts at approximately $1,814. The first listed configuration, which has a $2,299 price tag, consist of 15.4″ widescreen TFT with 1920 x 1200 resolution, Intel Core 2 Duo processor T7500 at 2.2GHz, NVIDIA Quadro FX 570M video card, 2GB of RAM, and a 100GB HDD with 7200rpm speed. The system comes with Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate.

Lenovo ThinkPad T61p workstation, weighing approximately 5.7 to 6.3 lbs, is certified to run applications of more than 20 independent software vendors and to run Novell SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10, Red Hat, and Turbo Linux operating systems.

Planned availability date for the T61p is July 17.

In addition, Lenovo introduced the ThinkPad R61 15-inch standard and R61e 15-inch widescreen notebooks as well as discrete graphics capabilities in ThinkPad T61 notebooks.

LapWorks Inc. today announced Laptop Desk Futura. It is a dual-purpose notebook stand, which provides an ergonomic workspace across the lap, and folds into a wedge-shaped stand for desk use.

The Futura retains key design features of other products in Laptop Desk family, such as dual-purpose Laptop Desk 2.0 and Laptop Desk UltraLite, but it additionally offers improved cooling and a “fashion-forward” look.

As a lap tray, Laptop Desk Futura unfolds into a wide, 21 x 11 x 3/8-inch workspace, which span the entire lap so you can relax your knees naturally instead of squeezing them together to balance a laptop. This position minimizes strain on the shoulders, neck, back and arms, according to manufacturer.

As a desktop stand, the Futura folds into a wedge shape that offers 5 typing angles for ergonomically comfortable use. It also elevates the screen 3 ?? inches closer to eye level at maximum incline to reduce neck strain.

To improve laptop cooling over previous designs, LapWorks created open ventilation slots which were previously closed channels so cool air can enter from under the Futura. In addition, it elongated these slots by 2 inches so hot air has a better pathway to escape from under wide-screen notebooks, and created a 1/8-inch air space to let cool air circulate under the notebook with rubber pads that lift and separate it from the Futura.

Laptop Desk Futura is LapWorks?’ first laptop cooler to come optionally in fashion colors in the coming months reportedly. The initial units, in modernistic ?‘gun-metal?’ gray, retail for $29.95 directly from LapWorks.

Dell Vostro notebooks, aimed at business users, are now available for purchase. The new notebook line includes 14.1-inch Vostro 1400, 15.4-inch Vostro 1500 and Vostro 1000, as well as Vostro 1700 featuring 17-inch screen.

These laptops are built on Intel’s “Santa Rosa” notebook platform with the latest Core 2 Duo processors, except the Vostro 1000, based on AMD platform and dual core Turion or Athlon CPUs. Belkin Released Three New USB Hubs

Belkin has released the Swivel Hub, Clip-On Hub, and Hub-To-Go, “making it more convenient to add USB ports to your PC or laptop”.

The Swivel Hub with four USB 2.0 ports rotates left, right, up, and down to provide easy port access for plugging in your devices. Belkin Clip-On Hub, which grips to the edge of a surface or a bundle of cables, also provides four USB 2.0 ports. Both hubs are priced at $29.99.

Belkin’s Hub-To-Go adds a total of seven USB 2.0 ports. Three ports are located on Hub-To-Go’s base, while its detachable part has four ports. The detachable hub features a rotating connector to keep adjacent ports free, while the base has a storage tray for flash drives, paper clips, and notepads, for example. Belkin Hub-To-Go has $49.99 price tag.

These USB hubs will be available in the United States late August 2007, with launches in Asia, Europe, and Australia to follow.

Fujitsu has launched LifeBook A3130 15.4-inch desktop replacement laptop PC, based on AMD Turion 64 X2 Mobile Technology.

Along with dual core Turion TL-60 processor at 2GHz and the integrated ATI Radeon Xpress 1150 graphics, Fujitsu LifeBook A3130 features 2GB of DDR2 system memory, expandable up to 4GB, and a 120GB SATA hard drive with 5400rpm rotational speed. The notebook’s 15.4″ widescreen display has 1200-by-800 pixel screen resolution, 450-nits brightness, 600:1 contrast ratio, as well as 120 degrees horizontal and 90 vertical viewing angles. Gateway Announced M, T Series Multimedia Notebooks

Gateway today announced the 15.4-inch Gateway M-Series and 14.1-inch Gateway T-Series multimedia notebook PCs, both featuring Intel Centrino Mobile Technology with Intel Core 2 Duo processor and the new industrial design with Crimson Red, Pacific Blue or Slate Grey colors.

“Several standard and optional features available on notebooks purchased through Gateway’s direct channel build on the notebooks’ vast capabilities, such as 1080p-capable display, an integrated fingerprint reader and a High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) for digital video and audio out,” the PC maker’s press release says.

The M and T notebooks incorporate a wireless connection supporting 802.11a/b/g and next-generation 802.11 Draft-N standards, an optional Bluetooth and a 1.3 megapixel web camera.

Although there are no detailed specifications provided, Gateway says even more options will be available to customers in the coming months including ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2400 XT dedicated graphics on the Gateway M-Series notebooks, as well as slot-load DVD burner, HD DVD, and Blu-ray optical drive options on both laptop lines.

The first two models of the Gateway M-Series and T-Series notebook lines - the Gateway M-6816 and Gateway T-6815 - will be available starting July 22 through national retailers that carry Gateway products. The prices start at $899.99. Gateway will also make the Gateway M-Series and T-Series available for order in the coming weeks through the company’s direct sales channels. Offered as the customizable Gateway M-150X and T-140X, the new notebooks will be priced starting at $999.99.

DreamBook Power D90 SLI - The World?s First Quad-Core Laptop

Australian PC maker Pioneer Computers has unveiled DreamBook Power D90 SLI, “the first quad-core notebook in the World”.

This 17-inch DreamBook, designed for gaming, is based on the Clevo’s D900C and comes with an option of Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.40GHz quad-core desktop processor. Other important DreamBook Power D90 SLI’s features, which are not present in common laptops, are a dual graphics powered by two nVidia GeForce Go 8800 GTX 2×512MB video cards in SLI mode, and a storage solution using up to two solid state drives and an additional standard hard drive simultaneously.

The quad-core DreamBook with Q6600 and dual GeForce 8800 GTX is available for pre-order with a starting price of $5,551 Australian dollars ($4,755 US dollars).

Recently, Canadian Eurocom said it develops the similar quad-core Phantom D900C notebook. On the other side, the United States-based Sager explained it will not use Q6600 processor in its NP9260 (also built on Clevo D900C) because this CPU can cause system failure if used long term.

Beta Version of Windows Vista Service Pack 1 Coming Next Week

Microsoft will release the Beta 1 version of the Service Pack 1 for Windows Vista operating system next week, while the final version will be delivered most likely in November 2007, according to Mary Jo Foley’s Blog.

“Microsoft is expected to emphasize that SP1 is more about fixes than new features. Most of the elements of SP1 are expected to enhance or supplment features that are already part of Vista”, Mary Jo Foley’s sources said.

Along with altered operating system’s desktop-search functionality “seemingly to head off another potential antitrust suit”, Windows Vista Service Pack 1 will include performance tweaks for faster files copying and shut down operation. The Vista’s SP1 will also bring improved transfer performance and decreased CPU utilization via support for SD Advanced Direct Memory Access (DMA); support for ExFat Windows file format for flash memory and other consumer devices; improvements to BitLocker Drive Encryption; the ability to boot Extensible Firmware Interface (EFI) on an x64 machine; and improved success rate for firewalled MeetingSpace and Remote Assistance connections.

There is no word on any tweaks related to controversial support for Intel’s Turbo Memory, commonly used in newer notebook computers.
