Ubuntu-Powered Dell Inspiron 1420N Unveiled

Dell Inspiron 1420NDell Inc. has refreshed its Linux OS-powered consumer PC lineup with the new 14.1-inch Dell Inspiron 1420N notebook. It features Ubuntu version 7.04 Linux distribution and the new Intel “Santa Rosa” mobile platform.

Dell Inspiron 1420N is offered with 667MHz front side bus Intel Core 2 Duo T5250 or T5450 processor, as well as with 800MHz FSB T7100, T7300, or T7500 CPU. It features GM965 chipset incorporating Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100 integrated graphics, which manages notebook’s 14.1″ widescreen display with 1280×800 or optional 1440×900 resolution. The system is configurable with up to 4GB of DDR2 memory at 667MHz, and with up to 160GB SATA hard drive at 5400rpm or 7200rpm rotational speed. There are Combo drive or DVD burner options.

The Inspiron 1420N has Intel 3945 802.11a/g wireless LAN and an optional Bluetooth. We assume this laptop has built-in Ethernet LAN module and a 56k modem, as same as its Windows Vista-powered 1420 sibling. There are no EVDO and HSDPA wireless broadband options offered with this system.

According to known specifications of Dell Inspiron 1420, the 1420N has a 7.1 channel sound system, four USB ports, an ExpressCard slot, a 8-in-1 memory card reader, and Firewire, as well as VGA and S-Video outputs,. It doesn’t have a built-in web camera option.

Dell Inspiron 1420N comes in eight various colors and weighs from 5.4 lbs with 6-cell battery.

Starting at $774, the 1420N is $45 cheaper than the 1420 base configuration with Windows Vista Home Basic Edition. The preliminary ship date for the Inspiron 1420N system is 7/14/2007.
