Lenovo ThinkPad T61p Mobile Workstation Released

Lenovo ThinkPad T61pLenovo has unveiled the new ThinkPad T61p 15.4-inch widescreen mobile workstation laptop, the PC maker’s “highest performing notebook”.

“The ThinkPad T61p raises the bar on performance with Lenovo’s Ultra Connect II wireless design helping improve WWAN and WLAN 802.11n performance, new NVIDIA Quadro FX 57OM graphics certified to the open GL graphics GPU standard, Intel Centrino Pro mobile technology and long battery life with more control via Battery Stretch. Users can even opt for next-generation wireless capabilities with Ultra-Wideband. With Lenovo’s new cooling system, the notebook runs three decibels quieter over previous models and up to 10 percent cooler even under the most intensive tasks. Tops for security, the notebook offers optional port disablement, 32-byte password protection, an integrated fingerprint reader and full disk encryption,” Lenovo’s press release says.

The other features of the T61p should be similar to those in select 15.4-inch T61 models with Mobile Intel PM965 Express Chipset and dedicated graphics. These Intel “Santa Rosa” platform-based Lenovo ThinkPad notebooks have, the latest Core 2 Duo processor, up to 4GB of system memory, up to 100GB hard drive, and a DVD burner, as well as a Gigabit Ethernet, a modem, a Bluetooth, a PC Card slot, an ExpressCard/54, and three USB ports. Lenovo ThinkPad T61p also has magnesium composite cover and a Top Cover Roll Cage for “extreme durability”.

The ThinkPad T61p mobile workstation starts at approximately $1,814. The first listed configuration, which has a $2,299 price tag, consist of 15.4″ widescreen TFT with 1920 x 1200 resolution, Intel Core 2 Duo processor T7500 at 2.2GHz, NVIDIA Quadro FX 570M video card, 2GB of RAM, and a 100GB HDD with 7200rpm speed. The system comes with Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate.

Lenovo ThinkPad T61p workstation, weighing approximately 5.7 to 6.3 lbs, is certified to run applications of more than 20 independent software vendors and to run Novell SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10, Red Hat, and Turbo Linux operating systems.

Planned availability date for the T61p is July 17.

In addition, Lenovo introduced the ThinkPad R61 15-inch standard and R61e 15-inch widescreen notebooks as well as discrete graphics capabilities in ThinkPad T61 notebooks.
