Computer Systems Division of Toshiba Europe today announced its Lapjacks service, which enables owners of the Toshiba notebooks to design a customized cover for their laptop.
“The website (Lapjacks.com) allows customers to choose from thousands of high quality images, upload their own digital photographs or even create an original design and submit it for production. The designs are then printed onto a high quality adhesive vinyl cover that is engineered to fit the exact dimensions of the laptop”.
Lapjacks provides customized covers for Toshiba Satellite, Qosmio, Portege and Tecra notebooks. It is also possible to purchase a cover with custom width and height.
Lapjacks are priced at ??14.99 (approximately $29) for pre-stocked imagery and ??29.99 (around $59) for customised designs. The shipping is ??2.95 for United Kingdom and ??5.95 for Europe, while for the rest of the world it’s ??9.50 (around $18.5).

Sony Business Solutions website has published the details of new Sony VAIO BX740 and BX760 business-class notebooks, both based on Intel “Santa Rosa” platform and Centrino Duo technology.
The latest Intel Core 2 Duo processors, ranging from T7100 at 1.8GHz to T7700 at 2.4GHz, power the 14.1-inch VAIO BX740 series and the 15.4-inch BX760 series. These laptops feature Intel GM965 chipset paired with integrated Mobile Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100 or PM965 chipset with ATI Mobility Radeon HD2300 dedicated graphics card. Both systems support up to 4GB of DDR2 memory, and come with up to 200GB hard drive spinning at 5400rpm. Sony VAIO BX740 and BX760 have DVD burners.
The main difference between VAIO BX740 and BX760 are their displays. The BX740 has 14.1-inch XGA LCD with 4:3 display ratio and 1024×768 or 1400×1050 resolution, while the BX760 has 15.4-inch 1280×800 widescreen display.
Regarding communications, the new BX notebooks feature wireless a/b/g/n (including 802.11n draft standard), Gigabit Ethernet, Bluetooth and a 56k modem, while the select BX740 models additionally provide WWAN connectivity using Sprint Mobile Broadband service.
Sony VAIO BX740/BX760 laptops have PCMCIA slots, Memory Stick Media slots, Secure Digital slots, three USB ports in each model, VGA outputs, and a port replicator connectors. For audio/video conferencing, there are built-in 1.3 megapixel cameras and built-in microphones. There is also a fingerprint reader in each model.
The VAIO BX740 features magnesium chassis and weighs approximately 5.7 lbs, while the BX760 weighs around 6.8lbs. With a standard battery, these systems provide continuous operation between charges of up to three hours and up to 2.5 hours, respectively.
The notebooks ship with Windows Vista Business or Windows XP Proffesional.
The prices of the unveiled “Santa Rosa” VAIO BX configurations vary from $1,199.99 to $2,418 for BX740 models, and from 1,149.99 to 2,169.99 for BX760.
